Chicago Chaos: A Whirlwind of Wind and Weirdness
okay, so. chicago. i landed here just a few hours ago and already feel like i’ve lived a whole different life. the flight was… eventful. let’s just say the turbulence was less ‘bumps’ and more ‘existential questioning.’
the weather? it’s… brisk. i just checked and it’s a crisp kind of cold - the kind that makes you want a hot chocolate and a good book, but also makes you feel like you can conquer the world. the forecast says it’ll stay around 9.59 Celsius (feels like 7.67!), with a high of 14.62. humidity’s a bit much at 91%, though. definitely packing layers.
i’m staying in a little Airbnb near the *Wicker Park neighborhood. it’s… quirky. think mismatched furniture, a faint smell of cinnamon, and a view of a brick wall covered in street art. it's definitely got character. honestly, the neighbors seem like they’re all in on some kind of performance art piece. i heard a guy practicing the tuba at 3 am last night. no regrets.
i decided to wander around Millennium Park first. duh. it’s iconic for a reason. the cloud gate installation is even cooler in person. the reflections… mesmerizing. i took a million pictures, obviously. managed to snag a decent one.
i grabbed lunch at this little place called Portillo’s. classic Chicago hot dog. so good. messy, but good. i heard that their Italian beef is legendary, but i’m saving that for later. TripAdvisor reviews rave about it.
after that, i took an architecture boat tour. it’s a total tourist trap, but honestly? worth it. learning about the different buildings and the city’s history was pretty cool. the guide was… enthusiastic. let’s just say he had opinions.
I spent the afternoon getting delightfully lost in Lincoln Park. So many people walking their dogs, kids playing, and people just chilling on the grass. It’s got a really laid-back vibe - a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of downtown.
i walked past a dude selling handmade jewelry. looked pretty cool. i’m thinking of getting something to remember this trip by. maybe a little silver something with a wind chime.
someone told me that the Chicago deep-dish pizza is an experience, not just a meal. I’m planning on trying it tomorrow. Apparently, it's serious business.
the air has a strange tang to it- a mix of lake water and exhaust fumes. it's not unpleasant, just… distinctly chicago.
I saw this street artist working on a mural in River North*. super talented.
I should totally check out more of their work. I’m also looking at some tours on Viator.
anyway, gotta go. it’s getting dark, and i think i hear the tuba guy warming up again. if you get bored, Milwaukee and Detroit are just a relatively short drive away. Yelp says the line at Portillo's moves fast.
hope to blog more tomorrow. wish me luck navigating this city!
