Bristol: Rain, Rumors, and Really Weird Vibes
okay, so i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and lukewarm coffee. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. 1826283137. seriously, what is that number even doing here? it’s clinging to the damp brick walls like some kind of urban lichen. i landed in Bristol yesterday, and honestly, it’s… a lot. the air smells like wet wool and something vaguely metallic. it’s not bad, just… intense.
I was aiming for a chill, ‘discover Bristol’ vibe, but it’s more like ‘Bristol aggressively confronts you with its history.’ I’m talking Roman ruins, medieval streets, and enough graffiti to make Banksy blush. I’m staying in this tiny place near the Harbourside - it’s basically a converted warehouse, which is cool, but the plumbing sounds like a badger wrestling a washing machine.
I spent the afternoon wandering around, mostly just trying to avoid getting soaked. The *Harbourside* is actually pretty decent, lots of bars and restaurants. I grabbed some fish and chips - greasy, salty, perfect. Someone told me that the Muddy Puddles pub is a local institution, but I’m still sussing it out. I heard that they have a surprisingly good selection of dark ales. I’m not a huge ale guy, but hey, gotta blend in, right? Check out some local eats here: https://www.yelp.com/
Then there’s the music scene. Bristol’s always had a strong indie vibe, and it’s still going strong. I stumbled across this tiny venue called The Louisiana - it’s seriously underground. I overheard gossip that they’ve got a band playing tonight called ‘Static Bloom’ - apparently, they’re like, shoegaze meets industrial noise. Sounds… intense. I’m tempted.
Speaking of intense, the weather is a whole other level. It’s like a perpetual drizzle, but with flashes of sunshine. It’s… unsettling. I’m trying to capture it all with my camera, but it’s hard to get a good shot when everything’s grey. I’m thinking of investing in a waterproof lens. Seriously, if you get bored, Cardiff and Bath are just a short drive away. They’re both… different. Cardiff is all about the castle, and Bath is all about the baths, obviously. Don’t ask.
I’m also trying to track down some of the city’s street art. Bristol’s got a huge scene, and it’s constantly evolving. I’m hoping to find some hidden gems. I heard that there’s a whole section of walls near Stokes Croft that’s completely covered in murals. I’m going to check it out tomorrow.
Someone told me that the Bottle Garage is the best place to find vintage clothes in Bristol. Apparently, they have a massive collection of band tees and 90s denim. I’m on the hunt for some serious grunge.
I’m starting to feel like I’m living in a slightly surreal film. It’s chaotic, it’s gritty, and it’s definitely not boring. I’m documenting everything - the rain, the graffiti, the weird locals, the questionable plumbing. It’s all part of the experience, I guess. I need to find a decent coffee shop before I completely lose it. Seriously, this humidity is brutal. I’m aiming for 9.46 feels_like and 10.43 temp.
I’m also trying to get a handle on the 2637891 number. It keeps popping up in random places - on shop signs, on bus stops, even on a pigeon. It’s driving me slightly mad. Maybe it’s a local code? Or maybe I’m just sleep-deprived. Either way, Bristol is definitely a trip. Check out some local events here: https://www.visitbristol.com/
And finally, a quick gear list for Bristol’s unpredictable weather: waterproof jacket (essential), sturdy boots, a camera with a good lens, and a healthy dose of caffeine. Don’t forget your umbrella. Seriously. It’s a must. And maybe a therapist. Just kidding… mostly.
