Austin, Texas: Neon Dreams and Unexpected Echoes

okay, so i’m still processing. landed in *Austin yesterday and it’s… a lot. like, a lot a lot. the air smells like barbecue and something vaguely floral - probably all the weird, quirky plants people love. it’s warm, like a bath after a long walk, which is exactly how it feels. i just checked and it's… there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. seriously, the humidity is clinging to everything. The State Capitol is actually a pretty cool spot to check out; i saw someone say it’s a great place to people-watch, and you gotta try it.

i stumbled upon this awesome little coffee shop called
Jo's Coffee while wandering around 6th street. it’s steeped in legend - supposedly, Stevie Ray Vaughan first played there. either way, the atmosphere is electric. the coffee is decent, and the people-watching is chef’s kiss.

i heard that don’t drink the iced coffee at Jo's - someone told me that it’s actually made with a secret ingredient, and it’ll give you… well, let’s just say you’ll feel
alive. i’m not sure if that’s true, but it’s a story that’s been circulating. i also overheard a local musician talking about a hidden speakeasy downtown - apparently, it only opens on Tuesdays and has the best live music in the city. definitely need to investigate that.

The neighborhoods here are so different. there’s a really funky vibe in South Congress, all vintage shops and quirky murals. it’s a good place to just wander and get lost. But up in
South Lamar, it’s more residential, with lots of cafes and little boutiques. if you get bored, San Antonio is just a short drive away.

seriously, the food scene here is insane. i've been trying to sample everything i can - tacos, barbecue, Tex-Mex… it’s a culinary adventure. i swear, the food truck scene alone deserves its own blog. i also heard that someone warned me about the heat being
intense during the afternoon, so i'm sticking to indoor activities for now. i'm going to check out the Bullock Texas State Capitol* for a bit of air conditioning and history.

a busy street with cars and people

i’m trying to embrace the chaos and just go with the flow. this city is full of surprises, and i’m excited to see what other hidden gems i can uncover. i’m thinking of checking out a few local art galleries later - the murals on 6th street are already pretty amazing!
