Vijayawada: Where the Heat is as Intense as the Internet Connection

okay so i landed in this place called vijayawada. it’s one of those cities that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. the weather? i just looked and it’s…hot enough to fry an egg on your laptop, hope you’re into that. feels like 33.57 but they claim it’s 34.08, who knows? definitely not the kind of place you wanna wander around in without a hat. seriously, tried to walk to the river and almost became human soup. had to stop for sugarcane juice. which was, btw, fire.

first thing i did was hunt for wifi that wouldn’t make me want to throw my router out the window. turns out that’s an olympic sport here. once i got connected, i could actually get some work done. the city’s… chaotic in the best way. there’s this river slicing through it, looks cool from afar but getting close? nah. heat’s a buzzkill.

food here? something else. someone told me the best biryani’s at Hotel Shanti Sagar, but then again, everyone says that about their local spot. tried it. was good, not mind-blowing. then again, i’m not a biryani expert. what do i know? just a digital nomad trying not to melt. also discovered gongura pachadi - sour sorrel leaf chutney. locals love it. took me three bites to not make a face. now i’m kinda hooked.

if you’ve had enough of the heat, guntur and machilipatnam are just a short drive away. didn’t go, but locals say they’re worth it. maybe next time. machilipatnam’s supposed to have beaches. which would be nice for a break from the asphalt oven.

accommodation? basic but clean. can’t expect much when you’re on a budget. hey, it had a fan and that’s all that mattered. people are friendly, especially if you’re a foreigner. they’ll try to help, even if their english is… creative. had a few convos via google translate. comedy gold.

oh, and the pressure? 1008. not that it matters to me, but i guess it’s normal. humidity’s 31%, which is low for india. plus. doesn’t feel as sticky as other places. still, hot. did i mention it’s hot?

if you’re coming, avoid midday like the plague. seriously. sun’s brutal. bring water. gallons of it. you’ll thank me later. learned the hard way. now i carry a bottle everywhere.

i also heard there’s this ancient Kanaka Durga Temple that’s supposed to be amazing. didn’t go because heat, but maybe you will. and a museum. history stuff. if you’re into that. i’m not, but i’m sure it’s cool.

overall, vijayawada’s… okay. not a top tourist spot, but it’s got its own vibe. digital nomad life? possible. just don’t expect internet speeds to blow your mind. india’s india.

here’s some stuff that might help:
TripAdvisor for Vijayawada
Yelp for Vijayawada
Local Tourism Board

that’s it. off to find AC. maybe more biryani. again.
