Tamaulipas Vibes: A Hot, Humid, and Kinda Magical Stop

so i just rolled into tamaulipas after a long drive and let me tell you-it's sticky out here. like, your-shirt-sticks-to-your-back sticky. i just checked and it's 23.86°C right now, but feels like 24.65°C. humidity's at 90%, so yeah, bring a fan or something. i heard from a local that the sea breeze helps at night, but during the day? forget it. you'll be sweating through your socks before you even find a decent taco stand.

anyway, tamaulipas isn't just heat and humidity-it's got this weird, sleepy charm. i stayed in a little guesthouse near the center, and the owner swore the walls were haunted by a former mariachi singer. i didn't hear anything, but the neighbor's rooster started crowing at 3am, so who knows? maybe it was the ghost warming up.

if you get bored, matamoros and ciudad victoria are just a short drive away. i didn't make it to either, but i overheard someone at a gas station saying matamoros has better street art than most places give it credit for. and victoria? apparently it's cooler-literally and figuratively. someone told me the mountain air there is a lifesaver when tamaulipas gets too steamy.

food-wise, i hit up a few spots. there's this little place called taqueria el gordo that a drunk guy at the bar insisted i try. he wasn't wrong-the carne asada tacos were fire. and the salsa? don't even get me started. i also grabbed a cup of coffee at a tiny café run by a woman who roasts her own beans. she said the humidity messes with the roasting process, but she's figured out the trick. i didn't ask what the trick was, i just smiled and nodded and drank the best cup of coffee i've had in weeks.

one weird thing: i kept seeing these old posters for a lucha libre match that happened like ten years ago. someone said the venue is now a discount electronics store, but the posters are still up. i guess some legends never die.

anyway, here's a map so you don't get lost like i did that one time i tried to find a waterfall and ended up at a goat farm.

and because no blog post is complete without photos, here are a few i grabbed from unsplash. they don't really capture the humidity, but hey, at least they look nice.
