San Juan del Sur: Sweat, Sand, and Seriously Strange Vibes

okay, so i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and lukewarm *coffee right now. 3715042 and 1591589017 - don’t ask. it’s just… a thing. i landed in San Juan del Sur yesterday, and honestly, it’s a sensory overload in the best, most slightly terrifying way. the humidity is clinging to me like a second skin, and it’s… there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. 25.77, feels-like 26.2, temp_min 25.77, temp_max 25.77, pressure 1010, humidity 69, sea_level 1010, grnd_level 1008. it’s like someone cranked up the saturation on reality.

A harbor filled with boats and buildings.

First thing i did was wander down to the main drag, Calle Principal. it’s a chaotic mess of surf shops, taco stands, and guys trying to sell you everything from
handmade jewelry to questionable massages. i snagged a queso con chorizo taco - seriously, the best i’ve had in ages - and immediately regretted it. my stomach is currently staging a minor rebellion.

I overheard some drunk advice from a guy at the bar - he claimed someone told him that the best sunsets are seen from Playa Remanso, but to avoid the seaweed. seaweed! like, seriously? i’m not risking a full-blown
seaweed incident. i’m a professional, remember? (sort of).

Speaking of beaches, Playa Marsella is pretty chill, but it’s packed. i spent a couple of hours just watching the waves and trying to look like i knew what i was doing. it’s hard to look like you know what you’re doing when you’re sweating through your t-shirt and covered in sand.

I checked out TripAdvisor for some restaurant recommendations, and Yelp is a total wasteland. i’m relying on local whispers here. someone told me that La Iguana Restaurant has amazing seafood, but also that the service is… slow. i’ll take my chances.

Here’s a quick rundown of my gear, because, you know, a professional needs to be prepared:

*Camera: Canon 5D Mark IV (obviously) - gotta capture the chaos.
*Drone: DJI Mini 3 Pro - for aerial shots (and slightly terrifying neighborhood surveillance).
*Hiking Boots: Salomon X Ultra 4 - because i’m a runner and i need to explore.
*Sunscreen: SPF 50 - don’t be a lobster.
*Bug Spray: DEET - because bugs are the enemy.
*Portable Charger:* Anker PowerCore 10000 - because my phone dies faster than my will to live.

I’m staying at a little guesthouse called Casa de las Flores. it’s…rustic. let’s go with rustic. the owner, Miguel, is a character. he keeps telling me stories about pirates and hidden treasure. i’m not entirely sure if he’s serious, but it’s entertaining.

If you get bored, Granada is just a short drive away. it’s a bit more polished than San Juan del Sur, but still has that same laid-back vibe. i’m thinking of heading over there tomorrow to check out the cathedral.

I also stumbled upon this amazing little art gallery tucked away on a side street. it’s run by a local artist named Sofia. she’s incredibly talented, and her paintings are full of color and energy. i bought a small print of a sunset over the ocean - it’s a reminder of this crazy, beautiful place.

A red statue stands near the calm ocean.

I heard that the local fishermen have a ritual every full moon where they offer prayers to the sea. i’m not sure if i believe it, but it sounds pretty cool. i’m definitely going to try to catch it.

Okay, i need more coffee. and maybe a shower. and possibly a therapist.

Here’s a snippet of a conversation i overheard at the beach:

“Dude, the waves are insane today! Like, seriously, you could surf for days.”
“Yeah, but the current’s strong. Almost got pulled out there yesterday.”
“Seriously? That’s messed up. You should have been more careful.”
“I was! Just… the water just grabbed me.”

Seriously, be careful out there. And don’t trust anyone who offers you a massage on the beach.

Two boats docked in a harbor on a sunny day.

Don’t forget to tip the locals! Seriously, it makes a difference.

Peace out,
