Rotterdam on a Roll: 58994 & 1706735840 – A Sensory Overload

okay, so. rotterdam. i just landed and already feel like i've been punched in the face by cool. the air is… thick. not in a bad way, just… dense. like someone bottled the smell of salt, diesel, and freshly baked stroopwafels, and then shook it vigorously. also, the humidity is hitting different - 29.48 celsius, feels like 30.59. i just checked and it's… there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

i'm trying to decipher what these numbers - 58994 and 1706735840 - mean, but honestly? no clue. maybe it's a lottery number? a phone code for some underground club? a really long pizza order? the mystery is part of the charm, right?

first impressions? brutalist architecture everywhere. it’s like someone decided to build with concrete and angles and then just… kept going. it's intensely modern, but somehow also feels lived-in. i’m already feeling inspired to just wander and get lost.

the locals? a mix. you get the effortlessly cool types (think perfectly ripped jeans and vintage sneakers), and then you get the folks who look like they’re about to start a DIY project on the spot. i saw a guy welding something on the sidewalk earlier - seriously impressive. if you get bored, The Hague and Delft are just a short train ride away.

i'm pretty sure someone told me that the best fries in the city are hidden in a little place near the *Markthal. apparently, it's a secret, whispered amongst the locals. i'm on a mission.

my initial gear list (because, duh):
*comfortable shoes: you'll be doing a lot of walking.
*rain jacket: even if the forecast looks clear, it's always good to be prepared.
*power bank: my phone is already begging for mercy.
*a good notebook: for scribbling down random thoughts and café observations.
*instant coffee: a necessity.

“Don’t be afraid to get lost. That’s where you find the real gems.” - a local barista, probably.

i grabbed lunch at this place called
Fenix Food Factory. it's a warehouse transformed into a food hall - seriously cool vibe. the food? amazing. i had some kind of smoked eel sandwich that was life-changing. someone warned me about the long queues on weekends, though. apparently, it's a popular spot.

and the buildings! seriously, the
Cube Houses are just… bonkers. i circled them three times just to make sure they weren't an optical illusion. the whole city feels like an art project. speaking of art, i heard that there are some amazing street art scenes tucked away in the less touristy areas. i'm planning on checking out some of those tomorrow. you can find some cool tours on TripAdvisor if you're into that kind of thing.

the weather report thing says it’s supposed to get a little breezy later. good. i need a good breeze. and i heard that the
Euromast* observation tower offers incredible panoramic views. i might just head up there for a sunset. i also found this really helpful guide on Yelp for hidden gems in Rotterdam. it's packed with local tips!

so yeah, that's where i'm at. completely overwhelmed, completely happy. i’ve got a feeling this is going to be good. and for now, i'm gonna go find some more stroopwafels. you know, for research purposes.
