playa del carmen got me bae

@Liam Foster3/1/2026blog

woke up this morning thinking maybe i’d finally beat my math exam stress. nope. unexpected weather surprise at 22.25 celsius. sure it’s balmy, but i’m blaming my accent for not understanding the weather app. turns out ‘feels like 21.34’ is just the city whispering ‘relax, bro’ in spanish. yeah, nobody asked for existential thermodynamics but here we are.

outside my place is that one older man yelling into his radio. he always does this. neighbors? more like human spam calls. if you get bored, cancun is just a short drive away. i heard that from a guy selling mango smoothies at 7 am. which is real. also heard the hostel z overcharges like $15 for a bed that smells like regret.

today i went to the mercado to get street tacos and realized no one there speaks english. which is wild. but also cool? i mean they’re trying. had to look up ‘sin gas’ (no gas) on google translate. but hey, it’s 31% humidity so maybe that’s the point. i checked the weather app. i just checked and it’s 22.25 right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

did some yoga in the parking lot near the ruins. not fancy. just stretched like i’m auditioning for a badlock. pro tip: if you’re a budget student, pack socks. the plaza has those metal chairs and the ground gets icky. i saw a pro dancer doing flips there. maybe she’s a ghost. who knows.

images popped in my head. first one is the sunset over the turquoise ocean. second is some random guy balancing on a skateboard near the bus station. third? maybe a close-up of my reusable water bottle. it’s got stickers. like a 2013 album cover.

so yeah. this place is chaotic. the cat buses are real. the 3515807 number? i bet it’s the hotel’s wifi password. or maybe the number of times i almost qued a disaster. i heard that from a local who said i’d survive. mostly because i forgot my phone charger and ate a taco instead.

the real review is from my cousin who said ‘thank god you’re here’ when i posted this. he’s probably lying. but who cares? i’m a budget student. i’ll take his lies for tacos.
