newhall’s nocturnal nudges

i just got here and let me tell you newhall is a place that doesn’t play nice. it’s 11.13 degrees but feels like 10.57 because the air is thick as a wet t-shirt in a sauna. i didn’t even pack a jacket because why would i when it’s already raining inside?

the weather here is a constant reminder to slow down. i just checked and it’s raining cats and dogs, hope you like that kind of thing. the humidity’s 87 percent which means my hair’s already sticking to my neck. i’m not sure if it’s a blessing or a curse. someone told me that the local pubs have secret menus for people who look lost, but i’m not sure if that’s true or just a story people tell to look cool.

someone told me that the park at night is haunted by a guy in a trench coat, but i think that’s just the wind blowing through the trees. the neighbors here are all about keeping things weird. i overheard gossip at a coffee shop that the food truck park’s new sushi place is actually run by a secretly terrible chef. don’t take my word for it though.



you can find the area on whatever map you trust but i’d rather just follow the smell of fries or the sound of someone yelling about a skateboard trick. the person who runs the local board shop said there’s a hidden skatepark near the old train tracks. i don’t know if that’s true but who am i to question?



if you’re into art, there’s this gallery downtown that changes its theme every month. i went once and they had a exhibit about 80s synth music. it was wild. the owner told me it’s all about reinventing itself, which is probably why the coffee prices keep going up.

yes, i know this post is all over the place. that’s the point. newhall doesn’t care about being neat and neither do i. the weather’s chaotic, the people are chaotic, and the vibes? they’re just… there.



tripsadvisor has a page on the best hiking trails here, yelp has some solid reviews of the food, and the newhall community board is a goldmine for hidden spots. don’t let the 87 percent humidity fool you - it’s not as bad as it sounds. just bring an umbrella and a sense of humor.
