mystic cove: where the heat is a state of mind
i woke up late this morning and didn't feel like making coffee. the last thing i wanted was to be here, but here i am. the heat is oppressive, 25 degrees and 80% humidity. it's like the air is trying to sink in and suffocate you. i swear the locals just breathe in and out with the same rhythm.
i saw this one photo on unsplash that made me go oh wow.
it's not a picture of a place, it's a feeling. like when you're stuck in a conversation you don't want to have but you're too polite to leave.
last night someone told me that the beach is always crowded at sunset. i heard that too, but i also heard the opposite. maybe it's a rumor from someone whoās never left. i donāt know. the truth is probably somewhere in between. if you get bored, the next town is just a short drive away. not that youād want to go. itās probably worse. or better. who knows.
i almost bought a vintage t-shirt at a local stall. the woman selling it had a face like it had seen too much. she said something about the fabric being from the 90s. i donāt know if thatās true or if she was just trying to sound mysterious. either way, the shirt was $10. i bought it. now i have a shirt that smells like old dandelions and regret.
the weather here is a joke. i checked and itās 25.82 degrees. feels like 26.55. the forecast says itāll stay the same. i hope you like that kind of thing. i donāt. i wanted rain. or at least a breeze. but here we are.
someone warned me about the neighbors. not the people, the actual neighbors. like the houses. they said theyād start playing terrible music at 3am. i didnāt believe them. until i heard a bassline that could knock over a tree. turns out it was true. now iām here, listening to bad music and wondering if i shouldāve brought earplugs.
check out the yelp for the best street food. i heard that the taco stand on main street has a secret menu. probably not true, but the reviews are wild. ytc said itās "authentic, but also confusing." thatās a review i can believe.
i almost posted this without the map. i almost didnāt add the images. but then i realized this post needed something. something to make it feel like a real mess. like it was written by someone whoās 3 a.m. and still trying to figure out if theyāre hungry or just tired.
if youāre into history, thereās a old lighthouse nearby. i didnāt go. i just walked past it. the light was on. it looked like it was trying to tell me something. maybe it was. or maybe it was just a light. either way, itās a thing.
p.s. if youāre reading this, thanks. i didnāt plan this. i just wrote what was in my head. which is probably a mix of confusion and caffeine. TripAdvisor has it reviewed as "overrated but not terrible." which is the most honest review iāve ever seen.>
