Montevideo's Hidden Gems (and Why I Almost Missed a bus)

i woke up late again. seven in the morning, which is usual for me, but this time the sun was blinding. 22.74 degrees outside, but it felt like i was inside a soggy sock. 94% humidity? not kidding. my camera lens was sweating.

maybe that’s why i got lost. again. i was trying to find that vintage clothing spot i saw on yelp, but instead, i ended up at this tiny alley with a guy selling botanical prints. he said they were from his grandma’s shop. i’m not sure if that’s true, but he handed me one for free. classic montevideo scam, i guess.

someone told me that the beach here is 'overrated' because of the pollution. i don’t believe that. i swam there anyway. the water was gross, sure, but the people watching was wild. a local in a neon tank top told me to ā€˜check the market at 3am if you want real fish.’ i didn’t, but now i’m wondering.

if you get bored, montevideo’s street art scene is a 20-minute drive. i heard that’s where the real artists hide. i saw one mural that looked like it was made by a toddler with a paint gun. it was confusing but mesmerizing.

i checked the weather again. i just checked, and it’s 22.74, like a humid sauna. hope you like that kind of thing. i don’t. i’d rather eat a ice cream cone in this weather.

neighbors? well, the cat next door was judging me. it sat on the fence for 40 minutes, staring. i think it knew i was a tourist. or maybe it was just tired of my snapshots.

i overheard a conversation about a new coffee shop opening. a local said it’s run by a disillusioned consultant. that explains why the latte art looked like a screaming emoji.

reviews? i heard that the oceanfront hostel has weird vibes. someone warned me that the owner records your conversations. i didn’t stay there, but now i’m paranoid about hostels everywhere.

i need to find a bus. i almost missed one because i was distracted by a skateboarder doing tricks on a bench. if you’re up for it, montevideo’s beaches are just a short drive away. i didn’t go, but now i regret it.
