Malmö Musings: Rain, Rye Bread, and a Whole Lotta Vibes

okay, so. malmö. i’m still kind of buzzing, honestly. it wasn’t what i expected, which is always the best, right? i’m a touring drummer, so i’m used to cities blurring together - a quick load-in, a gig, a lukewarm hotel breakfast, repeat. but malmö… it stuck. it’s got this… quiet energy. like a really good bassline you don’t notice until it stops.

I just checked and it’s drizzling steadily, a proper Scandinavian weep. Not a downpour, more like the sky’s just… sighing. hope you like that kind of thing. it actually suited the mood. I spent most of my time wandering, just letting the city pull me along. Found this amazing little bakery - Kanelköket - seriously, the cardamom buns are life-altering. I’m not even kidding. You can check out their reviews on Yelp: https://www.yelp.com/biz/kanelkoket-malmo. I’m already dreaming of going back for more.

I stumbled upon a bunch of street art too, mostly around the Möllevången area. Some proper cool stuff, not just the usual tags. It felt… raw. Real. I’m always hunting for that, you know? Something that feels like it’s breathing. I’m thinking of hitting up some local art forums to see if I can find out more about the artists. Maybe even collaborate on something. You can find some local art listings here: https://www.malmo.se/kultur-och-recreation/konst-i-malmo.html

Someone told me that the Turning Torso is a bit of a controversial building. Apparently, some people think it’s an eyesore, others think it’s a masterpiece. I just thought it was… weirdly compelling. Like a giant, twisted sculpture. I spent a good hour just staring at it. It’s definitely a landmark, though. You can read more about it on TripAdvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g189861-d188468-Reviews-Turning_Torso-Malmo_Skane_County_Southern_Sweden.html

I overheard some drunk guys arguing about the best place to get fika. Apparently, there’s a fierce rivalry between a few different cafes. They were going on and on about the quality of the cardamom buns and the strength of the coffee. It was hilarious. I just grabbed a coffee and a pastry from a random place and it was perfect. Don’t stress the details, honestly. Just fika.

If you get bored, Copenhagen and Helsingborg are just a short train ride away. I didn’t make it to either this time, but I’m already planning a return trip. I need more cardamom buns in my life. And maybe to finally figure out what all the fuss is about with the Turning Torso.

Oh! And something a local warned me about - apparently, the bike lanes are serious. Don’t even think about wandering into them. You’ll get yelled at. Loudly. I saw it happen. It wasn’t pretty.

Honestly, malmö just felt… easy. Relaxed. Like a place where you could actually breathe. I’m already missing it. I’m going to go make myself a cup of coffee and pretend I’m back there, listening to the rain and eating a cardamom bun. Maybe I’ll even try to recreate the vibe with some drumming. Wish me luck.
