Lost in Austin: A Whirlwind of Weirdness (and Weird Numbers)

okay, so i'm still processing the trip. i saw these two numbers - 4276614 and 1840003833 - before i even landed in *Austin, and i’m pretty sure they're trying to tell me something. maybe it’s the cosmic itinerary? who knows.

The weather was… intense. i just checked and it's...dry and surprisingly warm, hope you like that kind of thing. a high of 12.88°C feels like a personal affront to my Californian soul, but hey, the
sun was shining.

I arrived with absolutely no plan, which is basically my travel style. seriously, just wing it. i checked out a couple of spots on Yelp - that food truck scene is
real. Tacos practically jump out at you. i even considered a spooky walking tour, but then remembered i’m easily startled by shadows.

The people here? a fascinating mix. like, you've got your serious
musicians practicing on the sidewalks, your artists spray-painting murals (check out the ones downtown!), and then there are the folks just… existing, radiating a certain kind of Austin coolness. if you get bored, San Antonio is just a short drive away.

I heard that the
live music scene is legendary. Someone told me that the Continental Club is basically a pilgrimage site for music lovers. i definitely need to make that a priority. Also, apparently, the breakfast tacos are a religion. a very delicious religion.

One thing a local warned me about was parking - seriously tricky. They said to just embrace the chaos and walk. which, frankly, is my preferred method anyway. i’ve been alternating between grabbing a cold brew at a quirky cafe and wandering around South Congress Avenue. So much vintage stuff! (link to a vintage store blog: https://www.therockandrollvintage.com/).

I ended up spending an afternoon at Zilker Park - people were just
being. frisbee, picnics, a whole lot of sunshine. i even saw a guy juggling flaming torches. seriously. it was…a lot.

“The food here is…an experience. Just be prepared for some seriously loaded nachos.” - overheard at a food truck rally.

And the
humidity*? surprisingly low, at 45%. felt like a sweet relief from the usual summer mugginess.

I'm not sure what the numbers mean, but i'm taking it as a sign to keep exploring. maybe they're coordinates for a hidden taco stand? a secret rooftop bar? who knows! i’ll keep you posted. check out this guide to cool spots in Austin: https://www.visitaustin.com/things-to-do/cool-spots/
