London’s Quiet Streets and My Random Film Scouting Mission
woke up today with a invoice error and a bag full of takeout sushi from that one place near the train tracks. it’s cold here, like 3.43 degrees or whatever, and it’s that damp London drizzle again, the kind that doesn’t even bother to hide. i just checked and it’s...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.
ok, so i’m here because i need to find a quiet spot to shoot a short film about, i don’t know, a guy who sells vintage teacups on a street corner. maybe that sounds dumb, but i’m an indie film scout and this is my kind of chaos. the neighborhood feels like it’s holding its breath, which is good for atmosphere but bad for staying awake.
someone told me that the nearest pub only serves lukewarm lager if you ask after 9 PM. i heard that from a guy selling polaroids near the market, who probably got the info from a drunk who got the info from a real local. anyway, i’m taking the risk. if you get bored, the east side has that sketchy vibe where courtyards turn into secret jazz bars at midnight. maybe that’s a good escape?
the weather here is wild. temp min was 3.06, temp max hit 4.52 like someone cranked the heat just to see what would happen. humidity at 94% means everything smells like dog breath and old newspapers. i’ve been walking around with a waterproof jacket that’s clearly seen better days, and if i’m honest, it’s starting to look like a campground flag.
i saw a sign for a local film festival board on a bulletin board by the train station. it said something about ‘underground screenings’ and a date in October. i might be a fool, but i’m gonna email them. maybe mention i’m an indie film scout. who knows?

another random tip: if you’re looking for street art, don’t ask locals. some snob said they only paint at 3 AM when no one’s looking. i’m not sure if that’s true, but i’m gonna try it. also, the weather app keeps giving me random numbers like 2633954 and 1826947686, which are probably not helpful.
neighbors here are weird. one household has a dog that howls at 2 AM and another has a man who plays bagpipes in his backyard. it’s the kind of place that makes you question if you’re in a movie or reality. i heard that the weather here is so unpredictable, it’s like the city is trying to mess with your head. anyway, i’m gonna chase some film magic here. if you like cold weather and badly made horror films, this might be your spot.
p.s. yelp says the best fish and chips are at a place called ‘The Greasy Spoon’ but i haven’t tried it yet. maybe i will. or maybe i won’t. who am i to decide?
p.p.s. someone told me that the canal near here is a hotspot for secret artist meetups. if you’re an artist, you might want to check that out. if not, just stick to the sushi and the bad weather.
