La Paz, Baja California Sur: Where the Desert Meets the Sea and Everything Feels a Little Wild

@Owen Steele3/1/2026blog

so i found myself in la paz, baja california sur, and honestly, it’s not the kind of place you plan for-it’s the kind of place that just happens to you. the vibe here is slow, salty, and slightly sunburned, like the whole city forgot to check its watch and just decided to keep living in golden hour forever. i just checked and it's 16.41°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. not too hot, not too cold-just enough to make you want to sit outside with a cold drink and pretend you’re in a movie about finding yourself. if you get bored, cabo san lucas and loreto are just a short drive away, but honestly, why would you leave? someone told me that the malecón at sunset is the kind of thing that makes even the most jaded traveler take a deep breath and go “oh.” and they weren’t wrong. the sea of cortés sparkles like it’s trying to sell you a dream, and the locals? they’re just living in it. i heard that the best tacos are at this little stand near the mercado, but good luck finding it twice-it moves around like it’s playing hide and seek. and yeah, the humidity is 63%, which sounds like a lot until you’re standing in it and realize it’s just the ocean giving you a hug. if you’re into diving, snorkeling, or just staring at fish like they’re doing something interesting, espíritu santo island is a must. someone said the water there is so clear it’s like swimming in a screensaver. i didn’t believe them until i saw it. and if you’re wondering about the pressure-1011, in case you care-it’s the kind of pressure that makes you want to stay a little longer, even if your plans say otherwise. la paz doesn’t ask for much, just that you slow down and let it show you what it’s got. and trust me, it’s got a lot.
