Fortaleza: Where the Humidity Can't Kill the Vibe
okay so i'm sitting here in a cramped little art studio in *Fortaleza, brazil, and the walls are literally dripping with ideas. and condensation. it’s that time of year again, where the air is thick enough to chew on and the paint dries slower than i do after a night out. i just checked and it's 92% humidity right now, feels like a warm hug from a wet blanket, hope you packed your rain dance moves. for a full list of attractions, you can check TripAdvisor: Fortaleza Attractions but let me tell you, the real gems are off the beaten path.
anyways, i’ve been scouting walls for the new mural project and let me tell you, Praia do Futuro is a goldmine. the sand gets everywhere, though. like, in your ears, in your paint, in your soul. but the light? man, the light is unreal.
someone told me that the cops here sometimes hassle street artists, but the locals will always have your back if you're legit.
and hey, if you’re ever running low on inspiration, take a drive to Crateús. it’s like a whole other planet out there, desert vibes and all. short drive, completely different energy.
i heard that the best street art in town is hidden in the alleys behind Av. Beira-Mar. you gotta know where to look, but it’s worth it.
oh and before i forget, if you need supplies, hit up Casa das Artes* for cheap paint. they’re super cool about street artists, unlike some places.
drunk advice i got: avoid painting near the market on saturdays. too many drunk people, too easy to get bumped into.
also, if you’re into the scene, check out this Fortaleza Street Art Association - they’ve got maps and stuff. and for more ideas on where to eat and drink, Yelp: Street Art in Fortaleza has some recs.
and when you’re done with all that, Bar do Caju is the spot to unwind. tell 'em the street artist sent you. probably won’t get you a discount, but it’s worth a try.
anyway, that’s all from me. gotta go before the humidity dries up my paint. or... wait, that’s not how humidity works. whatever.
