Dust & Echoes: San Antonio's a Weird One

okay, so i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and lukewarm coffee. 5351247 and 1840020576… honestly, those numbers just keep swirling around in my head like a bad dream. i landed in San Antonio yesterday, and it’s… intense. like, aggressively intense. the humidity is clinging to me like a second skin - 29.98 degrees, feels like 29.15, temp min 27.69, temp max 32.31, pressure 1011, humidity 35, sea level 1011, grnd level 1012. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

I’m staying in this tiny Airbnb near the Pearl District - it’s basically a converted warehouse with exposed brick and a serious vibe. The landlord, a guy named Silas, keeps leaving cryptic notes about ‘the spirits of the Alamo’ and ‘avoiding the blue jays.’ Seriously. He’s a trip.

Spent the afternoon wandering around Market Square, dodging mariachi bands and trying to find decent tacos. Found a place called "El Rey" - someone told me that their barbacoa is legendary, but it was more like… aggressively seasoned beef. Still, it was good. I’m thinking of checking out Yelp for some backup options. https://www.yelp.com/search?query=tacos&sort_by=relevance&location=San%20Antonio%2C%20TX

Then I stumbled into this little art gallery in Southtown - it was all abstract expressionism and unsettling portraits. The owner, a woman named Delilah, was sketching in a corner and looked like she hadn’t slept in a week. She said, and I quote, ‘“Don’t trust the riverwalk. It’s full of tourists and broken dreams.”’ Okay, Delilah, noted. I’m definitely avoiding the riverwalk. It’s just… too much.

I’m trying to capture the feeling of this place in some photos, but it’s hard. San Antonio feels like a city wrestling with its past, trying to figure out who it is now. There’s a melancholy undercurrent, a sense of something lost. I overheard a group of guys at a bar - they were clearly drunk - arguing about the best way to restore an old Spanish mission. One of them kept yelling, “It needs more soul!” Seriously, the drama.

Speaking of missions, I’m planning on hitting up the Alamo tomorrow. It’s a tourist trap, obviously, but it’s also… important. I’m trying to approach it with respect, but also with a healthy dose of skepticism. I heard that the groundskeepers are convinced they’ve seen ghostly soldiers wandering around at night. Probably just heatstroke, but hey, you never know. I’m checking out TripAdvisor for some historical context. https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionGroupReview-g60957-d186333-Reviews-San_Antonio_Missions-San_Antonio_Texas.html

I’m also trying to find some good vintage shops. I’m on the hunt for a cool denim jacket and maybe a pair of boots. I’m thinking of checking out some local flea markets - someone told me that the one on Saturday is a goldmine for forgotten treasures. If you get bored, Austin is just a short drive away.

Seriously, the heat is brutal. I’m debating whether to invest in a portable fan. Maybe a tiny, battery-operated one. Or a whole army of them. I’m not ruling anything out at this point. I need to find a decent coffee shop too. I’m craving something strong and dark. I’m thinking of checking out some local roasters. I heard that "Black Magic Coffee" has some seriously potent brews.

Okay, I’m officially exhausted. Time for another lukewarm coffee and a nap. San Antonio, you’re a weird one. But… I’m kind of digging it. Maybe. Probably not. Let’s see.
