Corrientes Chaos: A Thrifting Fiasco in Argentina

so landed in corrientes feeling like a damp dishrag. this humidity is no joke-88% feels like breathing soup. checked the temp: 20.96 with a fakeout 21.41 ‘feels like’ number. locals just sweat through their shirts like it’s normal.

a vintage clothing store in Corrientes

heard whispers about this place called ‘retro basement’ near the university. spent three hours digging through mothball mountains. found a 70s leather jacket that smells like regret and victory. someone told me the owner hides his best pieces in secret-probably paranoid about pickers like me.

if you get bored of the textile torture, resistencia’s an hour north-heard the那里的 flea markets have better deals.

also stumbled on this *hole-in-the-wall spot called ‘la pulga feliz’ (the happy flea). chaotic pile of everything. bought a 90s band tee for 20 pesos. then i heard a local whisper that the real vintage gold is in some dude’s garage-he only sells to ‘regulars.’

‘if you ask for the secret collection, he’ll pretend not to speak english. bring yer best broken spanish.’

for more chaos, check Yelp’s Corrientes thrifting guide or TripAdvisor’s hidden gems. locals are tight-lipped unless you bribe them with empanadas.

‘avoid the tourist traps near the plaza. they’ll charge you triple for polyester trash. drive to the suburbs.’

spent yesterday haggling over a sequined blazer at
mercado antiques*. won. then immediately tripped over a rack of hats. classic.

if you go, bring wet wipes and low expectations. the hunt’s half the fun. now if you’ll excuse me, my leather jacket needs airing out before it grows legs.
