Cebu Chaos: Sweating Through My Digital Nomad Dreams

woke up sweating in a city that's basically a sauna. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. 30.57°c, feels like 31.4°c, humidity hugging you back like a clingy ex. perfect weather for melting into the pavement or finding the nearest aircon shrine. if you get bored, mandaue is just a short ride away, or lapu-lapu if you fancy some island hopping. someone told me that the street food here is life-changing but also gives you nightmares. i heard that the jeepney drivers have a secret language only understood by the brave. *don't trust the 'fresh' fish at the market unless you see it jumping out of the water yourself.

i'm a digital nomad, so my 'office' is wherever the wifi is strong and the coffee is strong enough to wake me up from this humidity coma. the locals? they move like they're made of liquid, unfazed by the heat. it's both impressive and slightly terrifying.
the view from my balcony? a constant battle between the ocean's shimmer and the city's smog.

gear list:
- 2 liters of water minimum
- a fan that sounds like a jet engine
- clothes that are basically just sweat magnets
- a portable charger because the power cuts are as frequent as my motivation to leave the house

pro-tip: if you're planning to explore, start before 7 am. the heat turns the streets into a slow-motion nightmare after that. and maybe bring a hat. seriously.

overheard gossip: 'the best coffee in cebu is hidden behind a laundromat in a sketchy alley.' 'don't eat the chicken at that stall near the university, it's basically a science experiment.' 'the beach at mactan is nice, but the water here is warm enough to swim in even in winter.'
