Berlin: Lost in the Echoes (and the Rain)

okay, so berlin. where do i even begin? i landed yesterday, and the air… it’s thick. not just with the usual city smog, but with history. you can practically taste it. the numbers buzzing around in my head - 2651654 and 1826475602 - they just felt…significant. like whispers of past lives.

currently, it's a soggy 7.39°C (feels like a frigid 3.66°C). the humidity is through the roof - 88% - and the wind is doing a little dance around the *Brandenburg Gate, kicking up all sorts of interesting debris. i just checked, and it’s drizzling - a persistent, insistent drizzling. hope you like that kind of thing.

i'm staying in a little Airbnb in
Prenzlauer Berg. it’s charmingly chaotic. think mismatched furniture, peeling paint, and a view of a courtyard overflowing with potted plants. my neighbors? a mix of artists, students, and probably a few spies. if you get bored, Hamburg is just a short train ride away, and the Dresden art scene is definitely worth a trip.

my first day was a blur. i wandered around
Mitte, getting delightfully lost in the maze of streets. i saw the Reichstag (obviously) and tried to decipher the street art in Kreuzberg. someone told me that the best currywurst in the city is a hidden gem tucked away on a side street - but no one seems to know exactly which side street. classic berlin.

“Don’t be afraid to get lost. That’s where the real stories are.” - A guy selling postcards near the
East Side Gallery.

i spent hours at the
East Side Gallery, trying to absorb the sheer weight of it all. the art, the history, the stories etched into the concrete. it’s overwhelming, in the best possible way. i’m definitely going to need a lot of coffee to process everything. i found this amazing little café in Friedrichshain with ridiculously good lattes. seriously, if you're into coffee (like, really into coffee), you have to check it out.

“The city remembers everything. It’s in the stones, in the wind, in the echoes.” - A woman sketching in
Tiergarten.

i heard that the
Museum Island is incredible, but apparently, you need to book tickets weeks in advance. i might try my luck tomorrow. i'm also planning on exploring the Charlottenburg Palace. apparently, it’s super opulent and a bit ridiculous - exactly my kind of thing.

“Watch your wallet. Someone told me pickpockets are active near the
Alexanderplatz.”

i’m trying to embrace the chaos. it's a little intimidating, sure, but there's also a sense of… possibility. like anything could happen. i just booked a walking tour for tomorrow, focused on the Cold War history. i’m really hoping to get a glimpse of the
Berlin Wall Memorial.

i’m also thinking of checking out some of the smaller galleries in
Hackesche Höfe. I heard they have some really cool contemporary art. And tonight? maybe a drink at a bar in Schöneberg*. or maybe just curl up with a book and embrace the rainy Berlin vibes. Check out TripAdvisor for more things to do in Berlin. Yelp reviews are a mixed bag, but the Currywurst is worth a shot!. And for a deeper dive into Berlin's history, the official Berlin website is a good starting point.

it’s a wild, wonderful, and wonderfully muddy place. i have a feeling this trip is going to be… interesting. and messy. just like me.
