Berlin Brain Dump: Numbers, Noodles, and a Surprisingly Chill Vibe
okay, so i just landed in *Berlin. the air smells faintly of diesel and something…unexpectedly floral? i’m not sure what. maybe it’s the surprisingly resilient weeds pushing through the pavement. the numbers i’m seeing everywhere - 2789786…and then 1056454956…they keep popping up. feels like some kind of code, right? maybe a secret society thing? i’m gonna need more coffee to decipher that.
temp is hovering around 10.32c, feels like 9.26c though. not bad, definitely a layered kinda day. the humidity’s a bit clingy - 71% - like a persistent neighbor asking for sugar. and the pressure…1017…feels kinda heavy, like the city itself is compacting around you. everyone’s hustling.
first impressions? chaotic, charming, a little bit gritty. i’m staying in a neighborhood near Kreuzberg, and it’s buzzing. the buildings are all these mismatched brick boxes, overflowing with overflowing flower boxes. someone told me that the best currywurst in the city is on a tiny stand down a side street - apparently, it’s a pilgrimage. i’m adding it to my list. been wandering around, trying to get my bearings. the street art here is insane. everywhere you look, there’s something - murals, stencils, paste-ups. it's like the city is constantly being rewritten. i spent a good chunk of an hour just staring at one massive piece near Boxhagener Platz. it was…intense. i just checked and it’s…cloudy, but not gloomy. a sort of soft, diffused light. hope you like that kind of thing.
so, the plan? mostly just wander. soak it in. find some good coffee (because, duh). and maybe, just maybe, figure out what those numbers mean. someone told me that the best place for a cheap and cheerful bite is a little Vietnamese place on Oranienstraße. they’re supposed to have incredible pho.
heard a rumor that there’s a hidden courtyard somewhere in Mitte with the most amazing ice cream. apparently, it’s only open on weekends and you have to know the password. i'm gonna have to ask around. the neighbors here are pretty laid back. if you get bored, [cities] are just a short drive away.
and the people…a mix of everything. students, artists, tourists, locals just going about their day. there’s a constant hum of conversation, music, and distant laughter. it's…energizing. this city just moves. i’m thinking of checking out a walking tour tomorrow, maybe something focused on the Cold War history. oh, and i saw a sign for a vintage clothing market happening this weekend. could be a good hunt. i need to find a decent tailor. the last guy i went to…well, let’s just say it was an experience*. i'm also eyeing some workshops on Skillshare to improve my photography.
this whole thing feels…unexpected. i wasn't sure what to expect coming to berlin, but it’s definitely throwing me for a loop. going to explore some more and see where the numbers lead. maybe they're coordinates? or just a random string of characters. who knows? i’m embracing the chaos. might need another coffee. definitely need another coffee.
