Bartlett, Tennessee: The Quiet Side of Memphis You Never Knew Existed

so here i am in bartlett, tennessee, and let me tell you-it's nothing like memphis. it's quieter, slower, and honestly, kind of charming in that sleepy-suburb way. i rolled in with no real plan, just a vague idea that i needed a break from the downtown chaos. and boy, did i get it.

first thing i noticed? the weather. it's hovering around *16°c right now, feels like 15°c, with a humidity of 42%. not too hot, not too cold-basically perfect for wandering around without sweating through your shirt. i just checked and it's partly cloudy there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

i stayed at this little
airbnb on a quiet cul-de-sac. the host left me a note saying, "don't miss the bartlett greens park at sunrise." so i did. and it was... fine. peaceful, sure, but also a little eerie how empty it was. felt like i'd stepped into a movie where something bad was about to happen. (spoiler: nothing happened.)

food scene: okay, so i heard from a barista at starbucks (yes, i went there, don't judge) that moma's bar-b-q is the real deal. i went. it was decent. not life-changing, but the pulled pork had that smoky tang that makes you nod approvingly while chewing. someone told me that the cole slaw is "an experience," so i tried it. it's... slaw. but sure, experience it was.

things to do: if you're into history, the nichols career center has a little museum that's basically one room with a lot of old photos and a diorama of bartlett in 1955. i spent 15 minutes there. it was fine. if you get bored, cordova and germantown are just a short drive away, and they've got more going on if you need a change of pace.

random overheard gossip: i was sitting at a diner counter when two old guys started talking about the "great lightning storm of '03." apparently it knocked out power for three days. one of them said, "we barbecued everything in the freezer and had a block party." sounds like a good time, honestly.

final thoughts:* bartlett isn't going to blow your mind, but it's a nice little breather if you're road-tripping through tennessee. quiet streets, friendly faces, and just enough local flavor to make you feel like you're somewhere real. would i come back? maybe. but i'd definitely bring a book.
